Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic Physician

An initial visit is similar to what you would expect from a conventional physician, except that it is longer and more in depth. It involves a full history of your present complaints, past medical history, family history, psychosocial influences, and an evaluation of dietary & lifestyle factors. Physical examinations and lab work are performed when appropriate. Dr. Burkland will then put together an individualized treatment plan to get you on the road to health and vitality.

Insurance
As of October 1st, 2007, private health insurance companies in Vermont must cover naturopathic physicians (N.D.s) in the same way that they cover conventional physicians (M.D.s). Medicare, Medicaid, and VHAP are not currently covering naturopathic medical services.

If you are unsure whether or not your plan covers naturopathic care, call your insurance company and inquire as to whether or not they provide coverage for "licensed naturopathic physicians."

At the Rutland ofice, I am currently not "in network" for any health insurance companies, so I am considered an out of network provider. Therefore, I cannot bill your health insurance company, but I can give you a form, which you can submit to them for reimbursement. That reimbursement will depend upon whether or not your plan allows you to see an “out of network provider” and whether you have met your “out of network deductible”. If you are unsure, call your insurance company and ask. At Sojourns Community Health Clinic, however, I am considered "in network" for most private health insurance companies in the state of Vermont.

Check with your employer to see if you have a cafeteria plan, medical savings account or other type of insurance that can be applied to your visit with a "licensed naturopathic physician."
